33 Christian, Jewish and Muslim religious leaders from around the state released a statement calling on the General Assembly to abolish the death penalty. The group, led by Bishop Walter F. Sullivan of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, included leaders from the Islamic Center of Virginia, a Jewish congregation in Richmond and a variety of Catholic and Protestant church officials from across the state.
