A 33-year-old Singaporean was sentenced to death by the High Court in Penang for trafficking in 801.7g of Ecstasy pills.
Koh Tiang Hock was found with the hallucinogenic pills strapped to his body at departure Gate 6 of the Bayan Lepas International Airport on July 21, 2000.
Koh, a labourer, was charged with trafficking in the pills under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which can be sentenced under Section 39B (2) of the same Act, and which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
He was the first to be handed the penalty since the Dangerous Drugs Act was amended in 1998 to include substances used in making designer drugs.
