a Chinese court announced it has upheld a suspended death sentence for a former Communist Party chief convicted of taking bribes. The Higher People's Court of northwest China's Gansu Province upheld the suspended sentence of death with a two-year reprieve for Wang Xianmin, a former party leader in Dangchang County, China's officials Xinhua news agency reported. Wang had been found guilty of accepting about $2.45 million in bribes from 2004 and 2010. The Intermediate People's Court of the city of Baiyin sentenced him April 6, 2011.
