A court in Dinajpur gave the death penalty to a man for throwing acid on a teen-aged girl in Hakimpur upazila, which left the girl blind.
Sakhawat Hossain threw acid on Ferdousi Begum, 14, daughter of Siddique Ali of Baroaria village as a sequel to previous enmity on February 10, 2000. She suffered severe burn injuries in her head, face and different parts of the body. Her sister-in-law and aunt also suffered burn injuries in the acid-throwing attack.
