A court in Myanmar sentenced to death a man convicted of killing the Yangon office manager of Mitsubishi Corp. and his local female companion earlier this month, official sources said.
The sources said the same Insein district court gave convicted killer Wai Lin's father San Wai seven years in jail for helping hide personal effects stolen by Wai Lin from the Mitsubishi manager's room. The bodies of Shuho Yamanokuchi, 53, and Tin Moe Htay, 21, were found with multiple stab wounds on the morning of May 13 in Yamanokuchi's suite at Renaissance Inya Lake Hotel, where the Japanese businessman had resided as a long-stay guest.
Wai Lin, 24, was earlier this month identified by police as an employee of the hotel and the son of Yamanokuchi's housekeeper. The government had said that Wai Lin had on the night of May 11 entered Yamanokuchi's suite and began stealing properties in two of its rooms when he was noticed by Yamanokuchi and the woman, who were sleeping in yet another room of the same suite.
It said Wai Lin then stabbed both of them to death and departed with stolen properties, hiding the loot at his own house and that of his father.
