a court in northern Vietnam sentenced a man to death for planting a bomb that killed his pregnant sister-in-law and her 4-year-old daughter. Nguyen Duc Tiem, 34, was convicted in Bac Ninh Provincial Court of "intentional murder," according to Pham Minh Tuyen, chairman of the court. Tiem became irritated with his sister-in-law, who lived next door, because she started her motorbike early in the morning and woke him up, according to the indictment. He also quarrelled with her over other small issues. He took revenge by planting a bomb on her motorbike in December. "Tiem's crime is extremely brutal," the chairman said. "There is no chance to re-educate him into a good person, so it is necessary to eradicate him from society." Tiem also admitted to planting a bomb on the motorbike of a friend in June 2010, believing the man was having an affair with his wife. The explosion blew off one of the victim's legs.
