A court in the eastern Uzbek Namangan Region sentenced Anvarjon Mahmudov, a policeman, to death for shooting dead one person and badly injuring two others. The incident happened on 3rd November 1999. The policeman left his post outside a bank building in the centre of Yangikurgan District, drunk vodka with a friend, then shot him dead and injured two passers-by.
