A delegation from the Council of Europe arrived in Japan to study capital punishment in the country

A delegation from the Council of Europe arrived in Japan to study capital punishment in the country. This is the first visit from an international organisation for such a purpose. Gunnar Jansson, mission leader and chairman of the council's human rights committee, said the delegation wanted to see why the death penalty is carried out in Japan and what the situation is in detention facilities.
