a Dhaka court, Bangladesh, awarded death penalty to three convicted for murdering ATN Bangla senior cameraman Shafiqul Islam Mithu. The convicts, Mohammad Ratan, Mohammad Sujan and Mohammad Raju, were also fined Tk 20,000 each. Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman passed the verdict. Shafiqul Islam, 40, was kidnapped while on his way to Kawran Bazar office from his Kawla residence in the night of May 8, 2010, read the murder charge filed against Mohammad Ratan, Mohammat Sujan, Mohammad Rahat and Mohammad Raju with Turag Police Station. His dead body was found in an area under Turag police station the next day.
Of them, Mohammad Rahat was killed in ‘gunfight’ with police. Others gave confessional statements.
