A division bench of Sindh High Court dismissed the appeal of three against a judgment made by the Anti-Terrorism Court in Karachi in a case involving kidnapping and ransom, but converted their death sentences into life terms. According to the prosecution, the appellants Hidayatullah Jan, Liaquat Ali and Shanwar Gul kidnapped food factory owner Syed Karim Salman from Karachi on August 9, 2001 and demanded Rs 6 million from his family. During investigation, police arrested Shanwar Gul, watchman at the factory, who admitted his involvement in the kidnapping. He took police at a house in Ittehad Town, Karachi, where Syed was kept.
