a former Jamaica Defence Force soldier, Leslie Moodie, had his death sentence commuted to life imprisonment by the Appeal Court.
He was sentenced to death in 2010 after being convicted of a deadly nightclub shooting in 2008, in which four persons were killed.
Moodie was challenging his conviction and sentence. He was successful in having the death sentence quashed after prosecutors conceded that certain guidelines were not followed when the death sentence was imposed. However, Prosecutors dismissed his claim that he was acting in self-defence when the four victims were shot and urged the Appeal Court to affirm the conviction.
