A High Court judge suggested that the provision in the Juvenile Courts Act barring a juvenile from being sentenced to death be reviewed.
Datuk S. Augustine Paul said authorities should consider reducing the age specified in section 16 of the Juveniles Court Act 1947 (Act 90).
Section 16 states that a juvenile (under 18 years old) shall not be sentenced to death but a court shall order him to be detained at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
"Sometimes juveniles' acts are worse than adults'," Paul said when sentencing an 18-year-old to detention at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for trafficking in 18kg of cannabis.
The boy was also charged with another two counts of drug trafficking under section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which carries a death sentence.
