A leading human rights group said human rights suffered a setback in Morocco this year and demanded an independent inquiry into the disappearance of political opponents in the 1960s and 1970s.
The Moroccan Human Rights Association (AMDH) also urged the Socialist-led government to scrap the death penalty as a measure of its goodwill towards improving human rights.
The AMDH accused the government of failing to meet its commitment to adopting international treaties banning torture and capital punishment.
Around 40 people have been sentenced to death in Morocco in recent years, including five Moroccan and Algerian Islamist activists.
