A Maricopa County Superior Court jury sentenced Clarence Dixon to death. The same jury had previously found him guilty of the rape and murder of 21-year-old Deana Bowdoin on Jan. 7, 1978.
Dixon, white, 51, is already serving 6 life sentences for the 1985 rape of another girl.
He was indicted in November 2002 after police found new DNA evidence that connected him to the Bowdoin case.
