A nationwide poll released earlier this month by USA Today shows that general support for the death penalty has fallen to 59%. According to the poll, 22% of respondents who said they oppose the death penalty would support the execution of Timothy McVeigh. Many of those who voiced opposition to the death penalty noted that they were recent converts to the anti-death penalty cause -- persuaded by the belief that some innocent people are wrongly convicted.
