A Palestinian human rights group condemned the killing of an alleged collaborator with Israel, who was shot while standing trial in the Gaza Strip on July 14.
Abdel-Hai al-Sababa was gunned down in chaos that erupted in a courtroom in the town of Khan Younis after an Israeli aircraft attacked a nearby building. A court official said a relative of three of the dead militants gunned him down.
"We denounce the ugly killing... of a detainee held on charges of collaboration with Israeli occupation forces," the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights said in a statement.
It called on the Palestinian Authority to bring those responsible to justice and ensure that "the law of the jungle does not replace the rule of law".
Khaled al-Qidra, the Palestinian attorney-general for state security courts, told Reuters: "We do not allow individuals to take the law into their own hands, therefore an investigation has been launched into the incident."
Security officials said Sababa had admitted his alleged collaboration role and was likely to have been sentenced to death.
