A Palestinian state security court sentenced a policeman to death for killing one comrade and wounding another in an unexplained shooting spree hours earlier, the Wafa news agency said.
It said naval policeman Abdel Mone'm Sallah, 22, confessed before a three-judge panel in Gaza City that he opened fire in his sentry-post in the morning, but did not give a reason. The emergency court was convened at the order of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, Wafa reported. Arafat must ratify the execution before the date is set.
Human rights organisations have criticised the Palestinian Authority's state security courts, especially their summary executions and denial of due process to defendants.
