A sessions court in India awarded capital punishment to a person for killing a farmer to acquire his property and also sentenced three builders to life imprisonment for participating in the conspiracy. Observing that this was the rarest of the rare case, Judge S K Kulkarni awarded death penalty to Ajay Sheshrao Galat for murdering the farmer Yadav Navkar of Chhoti Umri, near Maharashtra. According to prosecution, Navkar, a farmer, was murdered with extreme brutality and cruelty in Baswala Nala near Zari village in the Baitul district of Madhya Pradesh on September 3, 2000.
