Argueta was convicted of shooting and killing 24-year-old Jorge Lua, who was riding in a car on Valentine's Day 2004 in South Los Angeles, prosecutors said.
The next day, he sprayed 21 bullets from a submachine gun at a group gathered in front of a local nightclub, killing 12-year-old Gregory Gabriel and injuring 2 other people, including a 13-year-old girl, authorities said.
In October, Argueta was convicted of 2 counts of 1st-degree murder with special circumstances that made him eligible for the death penalty.
