Diep, 24, was found guilty by Hanoi People's Court of killing his friend with a hammer and stealing her motorcycle, digital camera and mobile phone.
He knew the victim, 19-year-old Nguyen Thi Phuong Anh, a student of Hanoi's Industrial Arts University, as they were both members of an online club on sports motorbikes. He decided to kill and rob her to settle his debts of 20 million dong (1,300 US dollars).
