A woman whose niece was murdered 16 years ago led a rally in York in support of restoring capital punishment for child killers.
About 25 people, including a number of children, set off from the Eye of York next to Clifford's Tower to support Gillian Chambers who has run a 16-year campaign after her niece, Nicola Fellows, nine, and her friend, Karen Hadaway, 10, were abducted and killed in Brighton.
Chambers was collecting signatures on a petition calling for the Government to hold a referendum on the reintroduction of capital punishment for people convicted of child murder.
Those on the rally carried Teddy bears which Chambers says are a symbol of childhood innocence.
On November 18 she and other members of her family will deliver their petition to Downing Street in London. Chambers said: "We hope it will make Mr Blair open his eyes and see that we mean business. How many more children have to die before the law is changed?"
