A Yemeni court convicted a Sudanese morgue assistant of killing two women and sentenced him to death, officials said. Mohammad Adam Omar was found guilty of killing the two women while he was working at San`a University's medical school morgue. The court ordered that Omar be executed by firing squad in the main square of the medical school. Witnesses in the court said Omar was calm and showed little emotion when the verdict and the sentence were read out. Omar's defense lawyer immediately appealed the verdict and the court has 60 days to look into it. The court also ordered Omar to pay each of the victims' families 5 million riyals (dlrs 41,600) in blood money and ordered that two lecture halls in the school be named after the victims - Noor Aziz, an Iraqi, and Hoson al-Hamdani, a Yemeni. While in custody, Omar initially confessed to killing 16 women in Yemen and then recanted, saying he only killed two.
