a youth, Amal Biswas was sentenced to death by hanging, for raping and murdering his girlfriend, a teen-aged girl of Cooch Behar district, in 2010, while his associate Nibaran Mandal was sentenced to life imprisonment by additional sessions judge of Cooch Behar, Somnath Bandyopadhyay.
The two convicted men and the victim belonged to Premer Danga village in Cooch Behar.
According to prosecution, Amal and Nibaran took the 18-year-old victim to a guest house in Kolkata in November 2010 and both raped her there.
They stayed in the guest house on November 7 and 8. The girl's body was found near Torsa river near Kalaraiyer-kuthi village in Cooch Behar II block on November 10. The two were arrested on January 7 the next year.
The two convicted men are now in judicial custody.
