In UAE, an Abu Dhabi criminal court sentenced an Asian man to death after he was convicted of trying to smuggle heroin capsules into the country by hiding them in his stomach.
The man was seized at Abu Dhabi airport early this year after he was suspected by customs men as he did not look well. At hospital, scanning systems showed 69 heroin capsules were concealed inside his belly.
During hearings, his lawyer tried to defend his act by saying he was not aware that the capsules contained heroin but her argument was rebuffed by court.
Execution in Abu Dhabi and other UAE emirates has to be endorsed by the country’s president and is carried out by a firing squad.
