Accused poison curry killer Masumi Hayashi should be sentenced to death for her crime, the father of a victim told a Japanese court.
Hirotaka Hayashi, a 10-year-old elementary school student, died after eating Hayashi's curry at a festival in July 1998. His father took the stand during the last hearing of the accused mass murderer.
"She must pay for her sins with death," the father, Yuji Hayashi, no relation to the accused, told the Wakayama District Court.
The session marked the last hearing of the trial that started in May 1999. Prosecutors are set to announce their demands for punishment on June 5.
During the last hearing, other relatives of the victims also demanded Hayashi be sentenced to death.
"Although she committed a serious crime, she has not made an apology," said a teary Chizuko Taninaka, whose 64-year-old husband died. "I want the court to sentence her to death."
Hayashi has denied mixing poison in the curry pot throughout the trial and took notes as the 51-year-old mother of a high school victim accused her of murder.
