AFGHAN MPS SAY DEATH PENALTY REDUCES CRIME

Afghani television reported various MPs claims that capital punishment reduced crime. Mohammad Khan, MP for the Ghazni Province said "I am very disappointed to see that people who committed crimes in 2002 or 2003 survived until now. They should have been publicly hanged at that time." Senator Qorban Ali Orfani said that "Criminals should be punished either publicly or secretly, but I am personally in favour of public punishment so the world and the people of Afghanistan can see that criminals are hanged." Mawlawi Ataollah Ludin, the head of the parliamentary committee for judicial affairs in Pashto said "the recent hanging of criminals by the judicial power of the Islamic government of Afghanistan is reasonable and appropriate because these criminals endanger people's life and property."
