the Iranian Foreign Affairs Ministry announced that 16 Afghan children are to be executed on charges of smuggling drugs from Afghanistan to Iran.
In reaction to this, a number of Afghan MPs have asked the Afghan government to transfer the prisoners based on an agreement signed between the two governments. The Wolasi Jerga (lower house) of Afghanistan was expected to approve this agreement, but it failed due to lack of a quorum. Sabrina Saqeb, an MP for Kabul, said.
“We should put the agreement on exchange of prisoners between Iran and Afghanistan on our list of priorities. These children will be kept in prisons for two years so that they become 18 years old, and then they will be executed. This is against the law.”
