After a continuous open trial, lasting 16 and a half days, the Intermediate People's Court of Beihai City pronounced its initial trial judgment on the "Xitou Gang" case, a sinister group involving 41 criminals

After a continuous open trial, lasting 16 and a half days, the Intermediate People's Court of Beihai City pronounced its initial trial judgment on the "Xitou Gang" case, a sinister group involving 41 criminals.
Nine of the defendants, including Li Changyu and Li Changhai were sentenced to death for crimes of intentional homicide, gathering crowds to engage in an fight, intentional injury, extorting and racketeering, picking quarrels and making trouble, drug trafficking and gambling. Among them, three defendants were sentenced to death with suspension of two years. The other 32 defendants, including Bao Juanhui were given sentences from one and half years to life imprisonment.
An investigation by the Intermediate People's Court of Beihai City established that the "Xithou Gang", was formed by Li Changyu, Li Changhai, Bao Dingsheng, Feng Wensheng, Zhang Weiguang, Lan Qingde and others, and based in the west district of Beihai City.
From January 1993 to November 1999 their crimes resulted in many people's death and injury, huge losses of public and private properties, and severe damage of the economic and social order, the investigation said.
