Ali Khalil, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee at the Lebanese parliament, contacted the Egyptian Ambassador Adel al-Khudari to express his appreciation for Egypt's intervention in the case of two Lebanese nationals sentenced to death in the Congo. Congolese President Laurent Kabila commuted the death sentence passed against two Lebanese nationals in Congo. Sami Yassine and Khalil Ghodban were sentenced to death on charges of smuggling currencies to the Congolese rebels.
