ALLEGED OUTLAW PUBLICLY EXECUTED IN BARA

Lashkar-i-Islam activists publicly executed an alleged outlaw in Bara, Pakistan. The decision to execute Riaz Khan was made by the group's 'shura' in consultation with local elders. The 'death sentence' was carried out in Nala-Malikdin Khel with hundreds of spectators. The Lashkar executioners shot him with Kalashnikovs and handed the body over to relatives in attendance at the execution. Haji Misri Khan, a member of the Lashkar shura, said the death sentence was given after a "thorough investigation into charges of murder, kidnapping and other heinous crimes." Riaz Khan, he claimed, had confessed to "all crimes he had committed over 10 to 15 years." He was punished in accordance with the rules of Sharia and tribal traditions. He said that the local administration had "not been informed... about the public execution".
