AMB. MARCELLI, IMPORTANT TO ARRIVE AT LAW AGAINST DEATH PENALTY IN LEBANON

Italy's ambassador to Lebanon, Fabrizio Marcelli, met with the chairman of the parliamentary committee on human rights, Michel Moussa, who is working on the bill to abolish the death penalty.
Lebanon, the ambassador recalled, has maintained a de facto moratorium for 22 years.
Turning abolition in practice into abolition by law would be a giant step," the ambassador said, "It would be a milestone for justice, to strengthen due process, prevent irreversible miscarriages of justice and affirm the primacy of human dignity.”
