Amnesty International urged the Zambian government to consider abolishing the death penalty, recalling that the country is signatory to the Universal Declaration of Human rights and the African Charter of Human and Peoples Rights. Amnesty's general secretary in Zambia Mabvuto Mumba said that the government's stance on the death penalty makes Zambian law fall short of international standards on the right to life.
