An editorial published in the Ugandan newspaper The New Vision urged Parliament to pass the Suppression of Terrorism bill 2001 tabled by the minister of state in charge of security, Muruli Mukasa, on October 11, "as soon as possible".
"As the world absorbs the shock of the 11 September attacks on New York and Washington, Ugandan legislators have to remember that our country has been suffering under terrorists for a decade and a half," the editorial said.
If passed the Bill will impose a mandatory death sentence on any person who engages in or carries out any act of terrorism.
