An El Paso County jury unanimously sentenced David Renteria to death

An El Paso County jury unanimously sentenced David Renteria to death this morning for the second time in the 2001 abduction and slaying of 5-year-old Alexandra Flores, who vanished from a Wal-Mart. Renteria had already been sentenced to death on Sept. 23, 2003, but on Oct. 4 2006 the Court of Criminal Appeals threw out the death sentence (not the conviction) because the original jury might have been left with the impression that Renteria did not express remorse, while he had written such a letter.
