An Indonesian court sentenced a South African man to death for smuggling heroin, an official said.
Okonkwo Kingleys was sentenced on May 19 by the district court in the North Sumatra provincial capital Medan, a court employee, Hatta, told AFP.
He could not provide details. The state Antara news agency quoted chief judge Dahlia Brahmana as saying Kingleys was proven guilty of smuggling 69 heroin capsules hidden in his stomach.
Prosecutors had demanded the death penalty.
The Jakarta Post quoted Brahmana as saying the defendant was proven to be a middleman in an international narcotics network bringing heroin from Pakistan to Indonesia.
Kingleys was arrested when he got off a flight from Malaysia.
