An influential Muslim leader said that Abu Muslim Alghazie, the suspected brains behind the mall bombing that killed 15 persons in General Santos City in April, should be meted the death penalty.
Ustadz Pendi Colano, Moro National Liberation Front leader operating in the South Cotabato-Sarangani-General Santos (Socsargen) area, said only the death of Alghazie, whose real name is Ustadz Noor Mohammad Umog, would appease the families of his victims. Hadji Nasser Tumbaga, father of blast victim Jack Tumbaga and a Muslim, urged authorities to hand Umog over to the victims' relatives.
Tumbaga said that under Sharia law, Umog deserves the death penalty for killing innocent women, children and elderly persons, but "he should not be given his day in court. Just hand him over to us and we know what to do with him."
