an unidentified Emirati man paid SR 5 million (Dh4.9 million) to save a Saudi man sentenced to death after killing another Saudi during a fight in the Gulf Kingdom. Newspapers said the relatives of Abdul Rahman Al Otaibi had raised around SRfive million of the SR10 million demanded by the victim’s family as diya (blood money) to pardon the killer and save him from execution. “The remaining SR five million was paid by a benevolent Emirati man, who preferred not to be named….this sum completed the diya demanded by the victim’s family to pardon Otaibi,” Sabq Arabic language daily said. Otaibi stabbed his friend Abdullah during a brawl in the central town of Aldawadmi a few years ago and was later sentenced to death.
