An unmarried pregnant Nigerian woman, desperate not to go home after a court ruling that a women is to face death by stoning for having a child out of wedlock, won temporary refuge in Cyprus, officials said. Seven-month pregnant Atanda Fatimo, 21, spent two days in police detention but was released after human rights groups drew comparisons with Amina Lawal Kurami, condemned to death by an Islamic court in Nigeria. Fatimo, a computer technology student in Cyprus who is also Muslim, was terrified she would face the same fate, friends who know her said."We will not deport this girl, bearing in mind her condition and the possible risks she may face," Cyprus Interior Minister Andreas Panayiotou told Reuters.
