Anglican Bishops across the Caribbean called for an end to the death penalty. This was decided by the House of Bishops and the Provincial Standing Committee of the West Indies at a recent meeting in The Bahamas. Bishop of Barbados Dr John Holder was among the church leaders at that meeting led by retiring Archbishop Drexel Gomez. The local Anglican newspaper, in its December edition, stated that the church leaders in a resolution on the issue noted that while the call "to hang the perpetrators high" had reached proportions, they were "of one mind in calling our people to stand with us in our opposition to the death penalty".
