Angry laid-off workers and their relatives killed three managers at financially struggling, state-owned enterprises in central China in 2001, state media and local officials said.
In October, a laid-off worker named Xu Yudong stabbed to death the chief of the Xianning City Chemical Fibre Factory after the plant refused to give him his job back or give him a better compensation package, an executive there said.
The executive said the factory had laid off 100 of its 500-strong workforce after several consecutive years of losses.
No other workers ever complained or protested except Xu, who repeatedly demanded the factory either reinstate him or pay him more for settlement, the executive said.
Xu was executed in January, she said. The fate of the other two killers was not clear.
