Antigua and Barbuda was reviewed under the Universal Periodic Review

1 MIN READ
Antigua and Barbuda was reviewed under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) at the UN Human Rights Council. With regard to the death penalty, the country’s delegation stated that Antigua and Barbuda would certainly educate the public towards the realization of its abolition. The country’s representatives also noted that the fact that Antigua and Barbuda had exercised a moratorium on the execution clearly indicated the direction to which it was leaning, particularly as it had considered making life sentences in respect of those persons who were convicted and sentenced to death. Recommendations to abolish the death penalty and to establish an official moratorium on executions were rejected by Antigua and Barbuda.
