Japan’s Supreme Court rejected an appeal by Yasutoshi Kamata, a 64-year-old man, against the death sentence for murdering a 9-year-old girl and four women between 1985 and 1994.

Japan’s Supreme Court rejected an appeal by Yasutoshi Kamata, a 64-year-old man, against the death sentence for murdering a 9-year-old girl and four women between 1985 and 1994.
The top court let stand the sentence meted out by both the courts of first and second instances, finalizing Kamata’s death sentence.
According to the ruling, Kamata abducted Kumiko Tsujikado on a road in Osaka and strangled her at his home in the city in January 1987. Kamata also strangled four other women aged between 19 and 46 between 1987 and 1994, according to the ruling.
Kamata's attorneys demanded overturning the death sentence, arguing he was forced to confess by police.
