As requested by the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, the Georgian Justice Ministry sent materials concerning the 13 Chechens who were detained on the Russian-Georgian border in early August.
"The materials involve both the five detainees who were extradited to Russia on October 4 and those who have remained under arrest in Tbilisi," Deputy Justice Minister Georgy Tskrialashvili said. Earlier, the Court recommended that the Georgian authorities suspend extradition and report until October 14 on whether the Georgian side had guarantees that the extradition won't be followed by executions.
"The Georgian Justice Ministry sent the documents it had received from the Russian Prosecutor General's Office. [The documents] indicate that the extradited Chechens will be covered by the moratorium on the death penalty," Tskrialashvili said.
