The rift caused by the execution in November 2005 of convicted Australian drug trafficker Van Nguyen was covered in talks between John Howard and Lee Hsien Loong.
After the meeting at Parliament House in Canberra, Lee said he had made it clear the death penalty will be enforced.
"It is not targeted at Australians or any particular country," he said.
"But it is a set of laws which apply in Singapore and which we have to enforce impartially, and which we will continue to do so."
