BAHRAIN. PARLIAMENT PRESENTED WITH ANTI-TERROR LAW

Bahrain's government presented parliament with an anti-terrorism law stipulating death for "terrorist" acts, following a rise in militant violence in the oil-rich Gulf Arab region, state media and MPs said.
Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa told members of the upper and lower houses the new law would apply to "terrorists coming from outside or those receiving orders from abroad to spread panic in our society".
MPs said the law stipulated the death penalty for "terrorist groups" and jail terms for those "who use religion to spread extremism". They gave no further details.
"Terrorism is on the rise in the region and the world ... and it is our national and religious duty to protect citizens and residents of Bahrain from terrorist threats which are alien to our peaceful society," King Hamad was quoted as saying.
The king said the anti-terror law should not infringe on the freedom or rights of citizens. He said the law could be reviewed in coming years if "we feel it is no longer needed".
