BANGLADESH. 4 SENTENCED TO DEATH, 7 TO LIFE TERM FOR MURDER IN CTG

a special court in Bangladesh sentenced four people to death and seven to life imprisonment for killing a businessman in 2003. The condemned convicts are Shamim Uddin, Doulat Mia, Towhidul Alam and Mhabubul Alam alias Chhoto Mahbub. All but Shamim were tried in absentia. According to the prosecution, they kidnapped GM Ismail Hossain, a businessman from Fatikchhari Upazila, on March 18, 2003. They took Hossain to nearby Garjania Tila and beat and shot him.
