BANGLADESH: DEATH PENALTY UPHELD

the Bangladeshi Supreme Court upheld the death sentences of Ilias Hossain, alias Elas of Talbaria, Rashedul Islam Jhantu and Anwar Hossain of Kursha in Kushtia for killing JSD president Kazi Aref Ahmed and four other leaders in Kushtia on February 16, 1999. Additional Sessions Judge of Kushtia Md Fazlur Rahman sentenced them to death in 2004, the High Court upholding the sentence in 2008.
