A Cumilla court on 14 November 2018 sentenced five people to death for killing three traders 11 years ago.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Nurunnahar Begum Sheuly passed the verdict.
The convicts who received death penalty are Faruk Hossain, Abdur Rahman, Shaheed, Swapan and Rusel. All of them remained absconding.
Three local traders—Bachchu Miah, Uttam Kumar Debnath, and Parikshit Debnath—were killed on Jan 6, 2007 in the Laksam Upazila’s Sriang area. The muggers snatched Tk 1,420 from them, said Public Prosecutor Abu Taher citing the case.
