Belarus's opposition parties intends to act together in the event the government calls a national referendum to extend Belarusian ruler Alyaksandr Lukashenka's presidential term. In a statement adopted by participants at a round-table conference on "Local Elections and Ways of Democratic Forces' Cooperation," which was held in Minsk opposition parties said: "Officials are planning to put on the referendum some questions which would please Russia - new assurances about integration, Europe - about the abolition of the death penalty, and the Belarusian common people - new promises, but they want the main question of the referendum to be about extending the presidential term and about the abolition of the constitutional provision that limits one person being in the post of president to no more than two terms."
