Bill Rammell, Foreign Office Minister with responsibility for human rights policy, met members of the Foreign Secretary's Death Penalty Panel to discuss how the UK can promote abolition of the death penalty in Africa. Speaking after the meeting, Bill Rammell said: "The UK is opposed to the death penalty in all circumstances. Together with our European Union partners, we work for its abolition around the world. I was delighted to discuss ways in which we can work together to promote the abolition of the death penalty in Africa. I am sure that the appointment of human rights experts to work with our missions in three African countries will provide further impetus to this important work".
